JUNE? WHAT EVERY NONPROFIT DIRECTOR AND FUNDRAISER NEEDS TO KNOW . . .

Quick . . . what month do most nonprofits see the most donations coming in? Ok, not a shocker to most, as you probably all said December in unison. Here is the trickier question though, what month is number two?

According to Blackbaud, one of the most well known resources for nonprofits, the month with the SECOND most donations coming in . . . ? This is the part in which we bet most of you were going to say November, which actually would not be far off. However, if we look at overall giving, the highest average is actually in June, which is slightly above November.

There are a variety of thoughts as to why June is so high, including the fact that many nonprofits have a June 30 fiscal year end but regardless of what theories are out there, this fact remains . . . people are willing to donate during the summer.

The point being? Don't put all of your eggs in one basket . . . the Christmas HOPE basket, where you HOPE to get all of your donations in, and HOPE to hit budget. Be proactive earlier in the year and be less stressed.

Why are we bringing up June now? It's because that month will be here before you know it, which means you have April and May to:

- Make your strategy

- Make your marketing materials (If you don't have them already)

- Make your appointments with donors
